BERLIN-GERMANY. Amazon Publishing Company in collaboration with Times Square Press in New York and London announced the new publication and release of an encyclopedia on a subject that haunted our minds for centuries: Are We Alone? The core of the book rotates around legitimate Ufologists and psychics, hypnotherapists and galactic civilizations researchers. The title is academic "Biographical Encyclopedia of People in Ufology and Scientific Extraterrestrial Research." This work is the product of the creative mind of author extraordinaire, Maximillien de Lafayette, known for his writings and essays on entertainment, art, comparative civilizations and history of world culture. The subtitle is equally impressive and goes like this "Leading Authorities, Scientists, Personalities and People Who Matter." I met Mr. de Lafayette in 1980, in Paris, when he was the editor-in-chief of World Art Celebrities Journal. We talked about so many subjects and flirted with philosophical ideas and artistic concepts, but never approached the subject of UFOs and extraterrestrials. A quarter of century later, Lafayette surprises millions of his readers with the publication of 9 books on "Aliens", and Ufologists!

The Anunnaki's Genetic Creation of the Human Race, by Maximillien de Lafayette.

According to insiders and to his entourage, De Lafayette's interest in the paranormal started longtime ago, when he began to study Sufism in Cairo, and the Mahayana Buddhism in India and Okinawa, Japan. It was reported that in 1979, De Lafayette was introduced to a secret society of learned thinkers in Cairo referred to as "The Ulemas". It is not a sect or an occult group. It is rather a society of scientists, and students of Asian philosophy, Medieval theology and parapsychology. This was then. And nothing came out of it until 2007, when all of a sudden, 9 of his books on UFOs, alien abduction and space/time travel were published in the United Kingdom, France and the United States. One book in particular "The Anunnaki's Genetic Creation of the Human Race" caught the attention of his readers. The book was published in January 2008, and apparently it is making waves. His most recent published work is "Biographical Encyclopedia of People in Ufology and Scientific Extraterrestrial Research."

Importance of this Encyclopedia and those who are in it

According to Shoshanna Rosenstein, a New York's syndicated columnist and one of the editors of the Encyclopedia, "this large first volume marks the beginning of a global and serious data and reference source on Ufologists to be taken seriously. Those who were written-up in the encyclopedia are legitimate Ufologists and researchers of these galactic phenomena...Only serious authors, writers, investigators and hypnotherapists were included." Carol Lexter, the senior editor of the encyclopedia said " Surf the Internet, and you will see zillions of so-called UFOlogists Do you know which one is real and which one is FAKE? Hard to find out, right? How would you know? Well, now you can, thanks to the "Biographical Encyclopedia of People in Ufology and Scientific Extraterrestrial Research." Any criteria for inclusion? Paris-based journalist Germaine Poitiers who worked on the Encyclopedia said "We could not squeeze in thousands and thousands of people...We determined that ONLY and ONLY the most credible ones should be included, based upon their published work, findings and status. I want to clarify one thing, we were very careful in the way we chose Ufologists and researchers. Preference was given to individuals with solid academic credentials, serious publications and genuine interest in Ufology. Yes, you could say this is the world's first and most authoritative source of reference on Ufologists..."

Carol Lexter: All the big names are in the Encyclopedia

"The importance of the Encyclopedia resides in the importance of scholars, scientists and researchers featured in the Encyclopedia. In other words, the Encyclopedia on one hand pays tribute to legitimate and accredited members of the UFOlogy community, and on another hand, it draws its power from the credibility and respected position of  genuine UFOlogists. There are no personal statements or favoritism, only accurate depiction of the accomplishments of serious people who proved themselves to be credible, honest and well-informed. You can call them "authority in the field" explained Carol Lexter.

Who is in and who was left out?

It is not so hard to find out. Browsing the table of contents of the encyclopedia leads the readers to illustrious and well-known figures and personalities in UFOlogy. Some of the most recognizable names are Al Bielek, Dr. William Birns, Dr. David Jacobs, Nancy Hayfield Birns, Vannevar Bush, Stan Friedman, Dr. Richard Boylan, Dr. Michael Salla, Barbara Lamb, Dr. Lynne Kitei, Dr. Carl Jung, Dr. Ellie Crystal, Budd Hopkins, Mary Rodwell, Jim Marrs, Dr. Bruce Maccabee, Dr. Roger Lier, etc...What's next on De Lafayette's agenda? He is currently working on 2 massive books; World Who's Who in Ufology and Extraterrestrial Studies, a 750 page compendium, and Thematic Encyclopedia of Ufology, a compilation of the informative and well-researched essays and articles by leading authorities in UFOlogy.

STARS OF THE YEAR

Souad Massi. Rating: At The Queen Elizabeth Hall, London

LONDON, ENGLAND- The rise and rise of Souad Massi continues. It is just over a year since she appeared in the modest surroundings of London's Union Chapel, acting like an uneasy cross between an Algerian folk artist and a western singer-songwriter, but already showing her potential for far wider success. Now, here she is at the packed-out Queen Elizabeth Hall, with the audience yelling and stomping. Still in her 20s, she has moved from Algeria to Paris and international acclaim in just four years. She looks much the same, with her jet-black hair, white shirt and designer jeans, but she is a very different performer. Last year she was a shy, charming newcomer with a handful of exquisite and melancholy songs. Now she has toughened up her material and grown massively in confidence. It is clear that all those comparisons with Joan Armatrading or Tracy Chapman are no longer valid. She has created a style of her own, in which cool, gutsy western pop is matched against influences that range from North Africa to flamenco, West Africa to the Caribbean, but with those intimate, sad-edged ballads thankfully still there. Her own acoustic guitar is now joined by bass, drums and the 12-string guitar work of Jean-François Kellner, a versatile player who can switch from finger-picking folk balladry to flamenco, or from Arabic-influenced passages to instrumental workouts worthy of Jimmy Page.

On her new album Deb (Heartbroken), Massi is joined by a whole range of instrumentalists, but they aren't needed here. With Kellner's help she can switch from rousing, sturdy pop anthems treated with a Spanish or North African edge, through to the gentle acoustic guitar duets where she can show off those clear, breathy vocals. The songs deal with anything from lost love to hopes for political change. Several, predictably, are influenced by the continuing suffering of those back in Algeria, now made all the worse by the earthquake. Yet for Massi, melancholia and upbeat melodies can go hand in hand, as she proves with the rousing Arabic/flamenco stomp of songs such as Ech Edani. At the end, acting like any efficient rock trouper, she insists that the house lights be turned on and the audience get to their feet, as she finishes with a dance song then another broken-hearted ballad. Algeria has a new international celebrity.-Robin Danzlow.

THE SHANKAR'S PERFECTION. Rating:

LONDON, ENGLAND- It was strange to be in the largely deserted City of London on a Sunday afternoon to listen to a concert, but for Indian classical music, and its greatest exponent Ravi Shankar, there's a time and a place for everything. "Friends," he said, "you are first going to hear two afternoon ragas." He later added that, given the weather, he should have chosen ragas for the rainy season. It was just after two in the afternoon and the Barbican, specially scented for the event with what smelled like rose petals, was packed. A small platform, covered in carpets and low cushions, had been constructed on stage, with two tabla players sitting cross-legged on the front corners, and two of Ravi's students, who would provide the tinkling wash of sound from the tamburas, sitting at the back.

They were joined by a glamorous 21-year-old with black hair, bright red trousers and pink blouse, who has the distinction of being the only sitar player in the world to have been trained exclusively by Ravi Shankar, her father. Finally, Anoushka's dad appeared, dressed in white. He showed the frailty of his 83 years as he approached the platform, but once he picked up his sitar, to a standing ovation, his age didn't matter. For two hours, he gave a blistering demonstration of the technical skill, dazzling speed, range and intensity that have made him a hero for musicians as varied as Yehudi Menuhin, John Coltrane and George Harrison. When Anoushka and her father played together at Womad six years ago, she was still a talented novice. Now her playing and confidence have improved enormously, to his obvious delight. The finest, most exhilarating moments came when they swapped solos, musical themes and often rapid-fire passages of improvisation between the two of them. He may have been the leader, and still the more nimble-fingered, but she never lagged behind, and the better she played the more Ravi was inspired to show off even more of his extraordinary technique.
