Ute Lemper’s "But One Day”

"But One Day..." Is a sparkling vocal miracle and a mesmerizing listening experience for anyone who loves the traditional and avant-garde Cabaret music. This CD is rich and multi faceted at many levels, because it encompasses all styles and aspects of old and “nouveau” cabaret genres. Add to it, compositions by French, German and American composers. It is an international carousel of cabaret folklore at its best in: variety, diversity, drama and infinite musical expressions. It contains cabaret classics by France’s great Jacques Brel, Kurt Weill and Hans Eisler. Ute Lemper herself is a phenomenon. She is worldwide recognized as the real Cabaret Diva who differentiates and distinguishes herself from other Divas and torch singers by her highly refined style, class, intellect, renaissance and world culture background, theatrical stardom which is based upon a mysteriously and enigmatically “Femina Persona”  which for generations was the exclusive monopoly of the one and only Marlene Dietrich her compatriot.  Those attributes put her at ease in singing  typical Parisian cabaret songs and passionate European ballades and hymns, for she grew up in those ambiences, atmospheres, milieux and surroundings. She finds her roots in European theater and cabaret songs, in Jacques Brel’s “Ne Me quitte Pas” (If you Go away) and in Kurt Weill’s “September Song” and Astor Piazzolla’s “Buenos Aires” and many other greats like Hans Eisler. “But One Day” album captures and depicts her best  past and recent performances in addition to a rich selection of songs she wrote herself and famous American ballads and melodious songs like” Mack the Knife”, “I am a Stranger Here Myself”. All blended in a perfect harmony and unity between the early 20th century’s Cabaret and contemporary avant-garde Cabaret repertoire. Rich orchestration at a symphonic level, along with creative and up-beat modern arrangements create a whole new universe for what Cabaret used to be or ready to become. This album is a treasure. Buy it. We gave this album a 5 star rating. Review by Maximillien de  Lafayette

Wide Awake and Dreaming. Rating:

Rebecca Spencer’s new musical explosion is her debut CD on LML’s “Wide Awake and Dreaming”. A superb Soprano singer with deep emotions, crystal clear voice, explosive inner feelings and intense interpretation of dreams, intimacy, philosophy of life and the beauty of being part of it. The arrangements are splendid thanks to the genius of Philip Fortenberry, the virtuoso pianist. This is a must buy CD. It is overwhelmingly rich with contemporary, standards and all time favorite tunes, magnificently interpreted by an outstanding singer who have mesmerized her fans for years.   The spirit of the CD is enigmatic, intelligent, warm and human at all levels. Spencer will make you dream, fantasize and explore a universe you dare only to see in your dreams. Buy her CD, it is a fantastic and most needed addition to our contemporary music collection. You will enjoy every second of it. Although, this mesmerizing artist’s first dominant strength is her stage presence, her pop voice, sometimes Soprano, and some other times, an explosion of human drama-comedy, will enter your heart and nourish your intimate escapades, fantasies, dreams and most beloved moments in your life. I felt so much humanism, enigma, sensuality and truthfulness in her voice. Rebecca is sensational. This woman can sing! She is first class. Two thumbs up. Hurry up, buy her CD. You will be enchanted and delighted. Review by Maximillien de  Lafayette
